Biography

Measurement of Contamination for Design of HVDC Transmission Lines in Chile and Performance of Silicone-Coated Insulators (in Spanish)

Professor Rodrigo Villalobos is a Civil Electrical Engineer from the University of Concepción, Concepción, Chile (2006) and a Master 2 Professional in Electrical Power Systems at the Paris XI University in France (2008). He is currently a PhD candidate at the University of Concepción. Between 2009 and 2015 he worked as Project Director in important electrical transmission companies in Chile. Since 2015 he is a professor and academic at the Department of Electrical Engineering at the Universidad de La Frontera in Temuco, Chile. Since then he has been a consultant on electrical insulation issues for companies in Chile and also for the 1500 km HVDC 600 kV Kimal-Lo Aguirre project. In the LMT laboratory of the University of La Frontera he has directed the design and implementation of a device capable of determining the level of contamination in insulators by measuring the leakage current and environmental variables. His areas of interest are power transmission, electrical insulation, contamination in insulators and practical solutions for the transmission industry.
