INMR World Congress 2017 Information for Attendees

1. Where is Sitges?

Barcelona – one of the safest, most visited and most beautiful cities in the world – has recently been in the news for other reasons. There is a political situation regarding the declared independence of Catalonia.

Attendees to the 2017 INMR WORLD CONGRESS should note the following: Life in and around Barcelona is normal and peaceful and people continue to go about their daily lives as before. The Congress actually takes place in Sitges, not in Barcelona, where most of the political marches have taken place.

Sitges is a small, historic coastal resort only a 20-30 minute drive south of Barcelona’s El Prat International airport and in the opposite direction from Barcelona. Attendees can go directly to Sitges from the airport and enjoy the many sites in and around this lovely jewel on the Mediterranean. The area around Sitges enjoys a special microclimate due to the surrounding mountains and is typically always warmer and sunnier than Barcelona.

2. Getting to Sitges from Barcelona Airport

INMR will run a free hourly shuttle to the Melia Sitges Hotel & Conference Centre from Barcelona International Airport(both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2) on Saturday November 4 from 8:00 to 22:00 and again on Sunday, November 5 from 08:00 to 19:00. Hostesses will be waiting with signs for the 2017 INMR WORLD CONGRESS and take you to the buses.

In Terminal 1, the pick up area will be on Floor Zero from Platform #20 (or the nearest available to this – see below).

In Terminal 2, the pick-up area will be on the nearest available platform in T2A (see below).

If you plan to arrive sooner than Nov. 4 or after 18:00 on Nov. 5, there are still several easy options to travel to Sitges:

Bus: The MonBus service runs from Barcelona Airport Terminal 1, (T1) to Sitges.
Train:There are no direct trains from Barcelona Airport to Sitges. It is necessary to take the RENFE train R2 Nord from the airport and get off at the first stop, called El Prat de Llobregat. From there you can catch the train to Sitges. If you are arriving into Terminal 1 (T1) you will not be able to walk straight to the train station since it is 4 km away. You will need to take a shuttle bus from outside the terminal.
Minibus/Private Transfer Services: There are several transfer options run by private companies that you can find on-line.
Taxis: The cost of a taxi from Barcelona Airport to Sitges varies from about Euros 65 to 75, depending on number of people and size of taxi. There are several taxi services you can find and book on-line to obtain the lowest rate, e.g http://sitgestaxi.com/

3. November Weather in Sitges

The long range forecast for early November in Sitges is mostly sunny, with highs between 18 and 21°C. Still, it is advisable to bring along a windbreaker or coat, especially if you wish to take evening strolls along the town’s beautiful and historic seacoast.

4. Sitges Old Town, Sitges Port & Melia Sitges Hotel

Sitges has a long history and contains interesting sights as well as a lively old quarter with narrow cobblestone streets filled with museums, tapas bars, restaurants, shops and art galleries.

5. Time & Location of Pick Up of Name Badges & Congress Materials

Everyone who is duly registered and who has paid the applicable registration fee will be issued a name badge. In order to access the different venues, including conference rooms, exhibition area, lunch venues, coffee break area and evening receptions, this Congress badge must be worn.

Pick up of your name badge and other Congress materials will start on Sunday, Nov. 5 at 13:00 in the foyer in front of the Auditorium in the Melia Sitges Hotel. It will continue until 18:30. If you are unable to arrive during this time interval, badges can also be picked up from the Secretariat Desk in this same location, starting at 07:00 on Monday morning, Nov. 6.

Those who wish to register on the spot can pay the registration fee in cash or by credit card. But if the card is declined for any reason, best to have sufficient cash on hand.
