Sitges is located on the coast just south of Barcelona with convenient and regular train access to the center of Barcelona. It is only about 20-30 minutes drive from Barcelona’s International El Prat Airport, which lies about midway between Barcelona and Sitges. The area around Sitges enjoys a special microclimate due to the surrounding mountains and is typically always warmer and sunnier than Barcelona.
Due to hundreds of attendees coming in at all times on many different flights, it is not feasible to arrange airport pick-up. We advise attendees to use one of the following options:
Bus: The MonBus service runs from Barcelona Airport Terminal 1, (T1) to Sitges.
Train: There are no direct trains from Barcelona Airport to Sitges. It is necessary to take the RENFE train R2 Nord from the airport and get off at the first stop, called El Prat de Llobregat. From there you can catch the train to Sitges. If you are arriving into Terminal 1 (T1) you will not be able to walk straight to the train station since it is 4 km away. You will need to take a shuttle bus from outside the terminal.
Minibus/Private Transfer Services: There are several transfer options run by private companies that you can find on-line.
Taxis: The cost of a taxi from Barcelona Airport to Sitges varies from about Euros 65 to 75, depending on number of people. There are several taxi services you can find and book on-line to obtain the lowest rate, e.g.: http://sitgestaxi.com/
November typically ushers in the winter season in Sitges, with an average temperature of 12°C. Sitges also has an average high temperature of 16°C in November. Lately, however, Novembers have become warmer and the long range forecast for early November this year is mostly sunny, with highs between 16 and 18°C. Still, it is advisable to bring along a windbreaker or coat, especially if you wish to take evening strolls along the town’s picturesque seacoast.
Sitges has a long history and contains interesting sights as well as a lively old quarter with narrow cobblestone streets filled with museums, tapas bars, restaurants, shops and art galleries.
Everyone who is duly registered and who has paid the applicable registration fee will be issued a name badge. In order to access the different venues, including conference rooms, exhibition area, lunch venues, coffee break area and evening receptions, this Congress badge must be worn.
Pick up of your name badge and other Congress materials will start on Sunday, Nov. 5 at 13:00 in the foyer in front of the Auditorium in the Melia Sitges Hotel. It will continue until 18:30. If you are unable to arrive during this interval, badges can also be picked up from the Secretariat desk in this same location, starting at 07:00 on Monday morning, Nov. 6.
Those who wish to register on the spot can pay the registration fee in cash or by credit card. But if the card is declined for any reason, best to have sufficient cash on hand.
If you have not yet made a hotel reservation at the Melia Sitges, site of the event, and received a confirmation from the Hotel, please go to: www.inmrworldcongress.com and click on RESERVE HOTEL ROOM , where you will be transferred to the Melia Reservation System. Better to do this right away since the number of available rooms in this hotel is now extremely limited.
But Sitges is a touristic town with many small hotels that are only minutes walk or a short taxi ride to the Melia Sitges. For example, if you go to BOOKING.COM you can find many attractive choices – all located only a short distance from the Congress venue (pictured below as seen from the Old Town).
The 2017 INMR WORLD CONGRESS will feature two evening receptions that are both included in the registration fee of all attendees.
This will take place in the Garden or in the Atrium (depending on weather). Only those who have a name badge will be permitted entry. There will be guitar music as well as canapés, wines, beer and soft drinks. This will be a wonderful opportunity to meet old acquaintances and make new ones.
If you are traveling with a partner or spouse and they wish to attend this reception, it will be necessary to purchase a ticket for them at a cost of Euros 35, from the Congress Registration Desk on Sunday from 13:00 to 18:30.
This event will take place in all exhibition areas. Aside from wines, beers and other drinks, there will be a variety of hot and cold snacks. This will be an excellent opportunity to tour the exhibition, see the many interesting products on display and discuss your needs with technical experts from leading suppliers from across the globe.
If you are traveling with a partner or spouse and they wish to attend, it will be necessary to purchase a ticket for them at a cost of Euros 45, again from the Congress Registration Desk.
The registration fee for each person includes lunches each day, which will be buffets offering a wide assortment of regional hot and cold appetizers, entrees and desserts to suit every taste and dietary restriction. Coffee breaks are twice daily, with coffee, tea and other beverages plus snacks, and will take place in the Exhibition area, allowing attendees to spend time visiting the many interesting exhibits and networking with others at this event.
There is no official program for spouses or partners of attendees. However, tours of Barcelona and the surroundings can be arranged through the Melia Sitges Hotel concierge, who can help and advise on the different tour options. Perhaps your partner or spouse can meet those who are accompanying other attendees during the Welcome Reception and plan to do sightseeing together.
